Dictation privacy policy

Dictation is a Windows app made by Nick Besiedin, an independent product designer. You hold a hotkey, speak, and the text is typed where your cursor is.
Short version
I don’t collect anything. The app has no account, no analytics, no ads and no server of mine. Your recordings and text go only to the two services you connect with your own API keys. Everything else stays on your computer.
What leaves your computer
The app works with two outside services. You create the accounts and API keys yourself, and the app talks to these services directly.
- ElevenLabs, speech to text. While you hold the hotkey, the app records from your microphone. When you let go, it sends the recording to ElevenLabs together with the words from your Vocabulary and gets the text back. ElevenLabs privacy policy.
- DeepSeek, text cleanup. Used only when “Clean up and format text” is on. The app sends the recognised text, your Vocabulary, and the name and window title of the app you are typing into, so the style fits: a short message for a chat, paragraphs for an email. DeepSeek states that it processes and stores data in the People’s Republic of China and may use it to improve its models. Turn cleanup off in Settings and nothing is sent to DeepSeek. What these services do with your data is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, under the accounts you hold with them.
The app also opens nibes.design or PayPal in your browser, but only when you click those links on the About page.
What stays on your computer
- Audio. The recording is kept in memory only until it is sent. It is never saved to disk.
- History: the final text, the original recognised text, the time, and the name and window title of the app where the text was typed.
- Settings and your Vocabulary.
- API keys, encrypted with Windows data protection, so only your Windows user account can read them.
- A small technical log with timings and error codes. It contains no text and no audio.
All of this sits in one folder. To open it, go to Settings > System > History and settings folder > Open.
Clipboard
To type the text, the app places it on the clipboard, presses Ctrl+V, then puts your previous clipboard contents back. If you copied something new in the meantime, the app leaves it alone.
Deleting your data
Delete single entries in History, or delete the folder above to remove history, settings and keys completely. Data held by ElevenLabs or DeepSeek is managed through your accounts with them.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.

Dictation («Диктування») це застосунок для Windows, який створив Nick Besiedin, незалежний продуктовий дизайнер. Ви затискаєте гарячу клавішу, говорите, і текст зʼявляється там, де стоїть курсор.
Коротко
Я нічого не збираю. У застосунку немає облікового запису, аналітики, реклами і мого сервера. Записи голосу й текст потрапляють лише до двох сервісів, які ви підключаєте власними API-ключами. Усе інше лишається на вашому компʼютері.
Що передається за межі компʼютера
Застосунок працює з двома зовнішніми сервісами. Акаунти й API-ключі ви створюєте самі, і застосунок звертається до цих сервісів напряму.
- ElevenLabs, розпізнавання мовлення. Поки ви тримаєте гарячу клавішу, застосунок записує звук із мікрофона. Коли ви її відпускаєте, запис разом зі словами з вашого Словника надсилається в ElevenLabs, і назад приходить текст. Політика конфіденційності ElevenLabs.
- DeepSeek, обробка тексту. Використовується лише тоді, коли ввімкнено «Чистити й оформлювати текст». Застосунок надсилає розпізнаний текст, ваш Словник, а також назву й заголовок вікна програми, у якій ви пишете, щоб підлаштувати стиль: у чаті коротке повідомлення, у листі абзаци. DeepSeek зазначає, що обробляє й зберігає дані в Китайській Народній Республіці та може використовувати їх для покращення своїх моделей. Якщо вимкнути обробку в Налаштуваннях, до DeepSeek нічого не надсилається. Політика конфіденційності DeepSeek.
Що ці сервіси роблять із вашими даними, визначають їхні власні умови та політики конфіденційності відповідно до ваших акаунтів у них.
Застосунок також відкриває nibes.design або PayPal у браузері, але лише тоді, коли ви натискаєте ці посилання на сторінці «Про застосунок».
Що лишається на компʼютері
- Звук. Запис зберігається в памʼяті лише до відправлення. На диск він ніколи не записується.
- Історія: готовий текст, вихідний розпізнаний текст, час, назва й заголовок вікна програми, куди текст було вставлено.
- Налаштування і ваш Словник.
- API-ключі, зашифровані захистом даних Windows, тож прочитати їх може лише ваш обліковий запис Windows.
- Невеликий технічний журнал із часом виконання та кодами помилок. Тексту й звуку в ньому немає.
Усе це лежить в одній папці. Щоб її відкрити, перейдіть у Налаштування > Система > Папка з історією та налаштуваннями > Відкрити.
Буфер обміну
Щоб вставити текст, застосунок кладе його в буфер обміну, натискає Ctrl+V і повертає туди те, що було раніше. Якщо за цей час ви скопіювали щось нове, застосунок його не чіпає.
Видалення даних
Окремі записи можна видалити в Історії. Щоб повністю прибрати історію, налаштування й ключі, видаліть папку, згадану вище. Даними в ElevenLabs чи DeepSeek ви керуєте через свої акаунти в цих сервісах.
Діти
Застосунок не призначений для дітей до 13 років.
Зміни
Якщо політика зміниться, нова версія зʼявиться на цій сторінці з новою датою.
